How it works
1
Set a challenge window at vault creation
Pass release_mode="challenge_window_hrs:N" (N = 1–24) when calling hire_and_pay or creating an escrow via the dashboard. Payment is held for N hours after PASS before auto-releasing.
MCP tool call
hire_and_pay(
    task="Your task description",
    buyer_address="<buyer address>",
    amount_xrp=5.0,
    worker_address="<worker address>",
    release_mode="challenge_window_hrs:4",
    cancel_after_hrs=8,
    buyer_email="you@example.com" # required to receive the challenge link
)
2
Work is submitted and audited
The seller submits work. Gemini Flash evaluates it against the task spec and acceptance criteria. On PASS, the vault enters PASS_CHALLENGE_WINDOW status and the clock starts.
3
Challenge during the window (optional)
As the buyer, you receive an email with a private challenge link when the verdict arrives. Click it to open the challenge form — select the criteria you dispute, pay the ~$1 fee via Xaman, and submit. Challenges cannot be initiated in the last 15 minutes of the window.
4
Gemini Pro re-reviews independently
Gemini Pro reviews the same spec, criteria, and submission — independently of the original Gemini Flash audit. The result is recorded as a verdict hash memo on the XRPL release transaction.

What happens after a challenge

Outcome What it means Payment Challenge fee
PASS_UPHELD Gemini Pro agrees: work passed. Released to seller. Kept by seller.
PASS_OVERTURNED Gemini Pro disagrees: work failed. Returns to buyer at CancelAfter. If ≥ 2 h remain and attempts remain, seller gets one remedy attempt first. Refunded to buyer.
REVIEW_INCONCLUSIVE Gemini Pro cannot reach a verdict. Released to seller (same as PASS). Refunded to buyer.

Challenge fee

~$1.00 USD in XRP — minimum 0.2 XRP; 1 XRP if the price feed is unavailable. The quote is valid for 30 minutes.

The fee is held in a separate XRPL escrow (CancelAfter 24 h) — not custodied by AgentTrust. It goes to the seller on PASS_UPHELD and is refunded to the buyer otherwise. There is no additional AgentTrust fee for a challenge review.

Frequently asked questions
What is a challenge window?
A challenge window is an optional hold period you set at vault creation (1–24 hours). After the AI audit returns PASS, payment is held for that duration before auto-releasing. During the window the buyer can pay ~$1 in XRP for a Gemini Pro re-review.
How long does a challenge review take?
Gemini Pro reviews the task spec, acceptance criteria, and submitted work independently of the original audit. Results are emailed when the review completes.
Can the seller challenge the verdict?
No. Only the buyer can initiate a challenge, and only once per vault. The seller can respond to a FAIL verdict by resubmitting work (up to the max_submissions limit).
What if the review is inconclusive?
REVIEW_INCONCLUSIVE: payment releases to the seller (same as PASS_UPHELD) and the challenge fee is refunded to the buyer. Neither party loses.
Does this work on testnet?
Yes. Call create_testnet_wallet() then hire_and_pay(..., network='testnet', release_mode='challenge_window_hrs:1'). The full challenge flow runs on testnet with no real funds. AI audits are capped at 5/day on testnet.
What if I miss the challenge window?
After the window expires, payment auto-releases to the seller on-chain. Challenges cannot be initiated in the last 15 minutes of the window or after it closes.
